Behind every classic car lies a fascinating story, filled with passion, research and unforgettable moments. In our new column, Tales of Elegance, we meet the collectors who participated in the 2nd edition of the Concorso di Eleganza Varignana 1705 to discover what makes their cars so unique.
Today, we take you on a journey to discover a true icon: the 1973 Porsche Carrera 2.7 RS owned by Lorenzo Matteucci. With its unmistakable engine sound and an exclusive Gulf Blue livery, this car is a piece of history on four wheels. Here’s what its owner told us.
How long have you owned the car?
"I bought the car in 1997 when prices were still modest and availability on the market was quite good. This engine has a very special power delivery and sound for me, so the driving experience is extremely enjoyable. It’s a car that still provides great satisfaction in terms of performance and agility. Having driven other historic cars from different brands, I must say that the 911, and this one in particular, is one of the most rewarding cars to drive on the road".
What makes this car special?
"The uniqueness of this car is that it is one of the 18 built in Gulf Blue, a shade that is very dear to me because I am passionate about historic car racing, especially the Porsche 917. Many of the most significant models raced in the colors of the Gulf team. When I found this car, there was no turning back. Love at first sight".

What is the history of this car?
"This is a 1973 Porsche Carrera RS, featuring a 2007cc mechanical fuel injection engine. It was originally sold in Italy and is one of the last ten chassis built of the Carrera 2.7 RS. It was sold in Palermo and remained in Sicily until the late ‘80s. Then it was brought to Milan, where it was restored by the previous owner, who took care of the mechanics and bodywork before me and also used it in club events and sports competitions".
Was there a particular reason for owning it?
"The reason is exactly what I just mentioned: it’s an icon in Porsche’s history, the Carrera 2.7. From this model, the RSRs and all the cars used in races, both on the road and on the track, were developed. It is a car that achieved countless victories, from the Targa Florio to other circuits. It is truly an icon for Porsche, a car that marked the brand’s sporting history with a road-derived product. For me, it was a dream come true when it was still possible to buy one, and it is the queen of my garage".
The Porsche Carrera 2.7 RS is not just a car but a symbol of Porsche’s racing tradition, an icon capable of thrilling generations of enthusiasts. For Lorenzo Matteucci, this vehicle represents the perfect blend of performance and history, a dream fulfilled that continues to deliver unique emotions.
