Light blue are the sky and the sea, light blue is the Earth when seen from the space. Gentlemen, if you have chosen a light blue car among countless possibilities, perhaps it’s because you have a romantic spirit and a personality attracted by unlimited vastnesses where everything is possible.
That’s what is stated by the psychology of color, which links light blue to inner calm, to unshakable and peaceful people. It’s the shade that attracts those personalities that are forced to move toward what sometimes is only intuited by your instinct.
Perhaps for these features, light blue has united, in the world of motoring, world champions and unforgettable icons. Like Alberto Ascari, Italian Gentleman Driver who won 13 GPs and 2 consecutive Formula One World Championships (in 1952 and 1953). Historical rival of Juan Manuel Fangio, Ascari never ran a Grand Prix without his light blue shirt and helmet. For a twist of fate, the only time he raced without these lucky charms was fatal to him.
Another light blue icon is the Porsche 917K driven by Steve McQueen in one of the best films on car racing of all time: “Le Mans” (1971). The one that actually participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans was one of the only 25 Porsche 917s ever built: its pale blue and orange livery – official colors of the Gulf sponsor – is an absolute eye-catcher, as demonstrated by this Porsche 911 on the pit lane of the 2016 Le Mans Classic.
Porsche, a brand that has always been emblematic of class and sophistication, has often blended the design of its creations with light blue. Many collectors know very well the 1959 Porsche 356A Convertible in Meissen Blue, a shade inspired by the precious ceramics for which the German town is famous for. The elegance of a color combined with the refinement of shapes.
From race tracks to concourses of elegance, the path of the great models has never stopped dying itself in light blue. Only a year ago, this was the background color of the collectible tie that The Outlierman made as a style partner of Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, inspired by iconic cars from the French manufacturer Delahaye.
The color of the vastness to be explored, of idols and icons: light blue, a timeless inspiration.
