My bond with London began many years ago. There’s a sort of Gentlemen's agreement between us, so that growing up I promised myself that sooner or later I would have lived there. And so it happens that the first event of the year attended by The Outlierman is precisely "The London Classic Car Show". I didn’t want to miss anything of this event and even though it was only in its second edition the expectations were very high, considering the great passion of British people for classic cars.
On Thursday I attended the opening show, during which 6 countries paraded on the Grand Avenue (Japan, Germany, England, France, Italy, United States) with three cars each. Real masterpieces: Mercedes-Benz 190 SL, Porsche 356, Aston Martin DB5, Jaguar E-Type, Lancia Aurelia, Ferrari 275.
Everything was in its right place. Cars were in sublime conditions, with bright bodies and leather interiors from which it was easy to guess that they definitely belonged to real Gentlemen drivers, who clearly care more about their cars than anything else!
My passion for British cars is not a secret. You can imagine how I felt at ease between a race Bentley of the 30's, an Aston Martin DB3S and a Jaguar D-Type. Several times I imagined to start the engine and take one home, but these desires have a price, which in many cases exceeded one million pounds.
A peculiarity of this event is without any doubt the elegance of the people who participate: bow ties, hats, ties, driving gloves, all inspired by the driving world. A passion that these people try to experience in every detail and something i’m definitely aware of.
I took some pictures and a video to share with you this amazing event which I am sure you will hear about more and more in the coming years.
A special thanks to Massimo Cristallo of Classic & Sports Cars for taking me at this show for true experts!
